Our new location for the Show-and-Shine was AWESOME! No more having to walk nearly a quarter mile just to get to the restroom. We also were able to have a company come out and grill up burgers and dogs as well as bring out sodas and water. We even had room for some shade canopies – even though the weather this year was very pleasant. We had room to stretch out and we even added a section for non-Supras – something I hope we can grow for the future.
OK… so they changed the directions on me at the last minute. We did make an announcement to everyone that pre-registered – another reason to get pre-registered and use a valid email address. And our sign marking the entrance did blow over – sorry.
We didn’t quite set our overall record this year – we were just 5 Supras off (and I saw at least 6 Supras parked outside the show lot). We did set a new record for the number of MkIVs in a single place though. We counted 93 MkIVs… WOW!

The competition was FIERCE this year! The quality of those Supras was AMAZING! I saw some familiar Supras and also saw a LOT of Supras that I had never seen before. THANK YOU to everyone that came out and made SILV08 successful.
Awards – popular vote:
This year was our best turnout for voting EVER! Nearly 50% of the participants turned in their voting ballots. Thank you to everyone who voted. Come of the votes were close… others were complete blowouts.
MkIII Smackdown and High Roller Series:
At the same time this was all going on we had three judges reviewing the MkIII Smackdown and High Roller Series Participants looking at Interior, Exterior, and Engine and assigning points. Bob Sully represented the MkII Community, Chris Jensen the MkIII Community, and Ken Henderson the MkIV community.
Each participant was rated on a scale of 1 – 10 (with 10 being the highest). This was not a direct comparison though – each Supra was rated on their own merit.
When the scores were tallied, Jeff Wilson had the best score for both Interior and Engine and was tied with Shawn Cassidy for exterior. This moved Jeff into first place in the MkIII Smackdown with 23.1 points out of a possible 50 (but 25 points were up for grabs at the Drags). Rey Cruz dropped from first after the Dyno to second at the Show and was just 1/2 point behind Jeff. This was still anyone’s game.
For the High Roller Series things were also heating up. After topping out the Dyno at 1500+ whp SW and Ryan Woon were both on the top of the HRS. SW simply dominated the Show-and-Shine receiving nearly a perfect score (hey SW… I’ll tell you who knocked you down a point if you paypal me $50). Just kidding. Jerry R actually pulled down the next best scores.

Director’s Choice Awards:
In addition to the People’s Choice Awards above, I wanted to add my own touch to the Show-and-Shine and created the Director’s Choice Award. This award would go to the best overall Supra in my opinion. This turned out to be tougher than I had originally thought.
On the first pass I was looking simply for Supras that caught my eye and drew me in for a second, third, fourth, etc look? Three out of eleven MkIIs, six MkIIIs, and fifteen MkIVs made the first list.
The second pass was a more detailed review of each Supra. This brought the MkIIs down to two, MkIIIs down to three, and the MkIVs down to ten.
The third pass involved comparing the smaller details of each Supra. This gave a winner for the MkIIs but the MkIIIs were narrowed down to two and the MkIVs down to five.
It was time to bring in some help. I asked about 40 people’s opinions on the final two MkIIIs on my list. DAMNIT! Everyone was split right down the middle. Now what? The MkIVs were a bit easier actually. And with three more passes – and help from some attendees - I was able to pick a MkIV for the prize. But what to do about the MkIIIs? Each Supra had elements that the other did not. How do you pick a winner when the race was so close? Looking back I see that each of these Supras received the exact same # of votes for Best Engine, Best Interior, and Best ICE. THAT is how close this competition was. At the end of the day we left the final decision up to my good friend Thomas Jefferson and the flip of a coin.
